What’s in a name??? Great question.
In the case of Hurricane Ida there is a whole lot more to the story!! For us years and generations of selective breeding, honest evaluation, Passion and ACTUAL work have gone into the dog we lovingly call Ida. But there is more to her story – starting with the identification of the repeat breeding’s of FC AFC Wings Magic’s Louisiana Roux MH to GMPR Sante Fe’s Contender Tyra as a foundational building block for a line of Elite chocolate labs. This breeding was repeated multiple times and resulted in numerous very successful working, hunt test and field trial offspring. That list included Ammo the all time high point chocolate Labrador among a host of full brothers and sisters. We selected a pup out of a litter from one of those sisters which gave us our foundational building block, CP’s Sweet Amazing Grace. As Gracie developed and turned into the chocolate foundation dog that we hoped she would become, we made the decision to line breed her back to another Roux x Contender Tyra stud dog. After much research and numerous trips to see dogs working, we made the decision to work with Tim and Nancy West in Oklahoma and their dog Boyou Magic’s Rouxster Bleu MH QAA Am win. Once I had made my mind up I asked Tim what his thoughts on this close line breeding were – his answer was swift and straight forward – “Let’s do it!” The results were fabulous with at least 5 dogs working as high performing guide dogs and with our dear friend Jerimiah Williams in Costal Louisiana acquiring a female, Hrch Boyou Majestic Sadie, from this litter us with the understanding that we would acquire a pup back from future breeding’s to HOF stud dogs. Sadie upon getting her health clearances and Hrch title was bred to 9X GRHRCH UH HOF Hardy Lakes Chipoltle Gump HNH MH28 HOF. Chip (as he is called) is a multiple Hall of Fame stud dog and one of the most accomplished chocolates around. Best of all he is siring performance dogs and his influence shows in the number of titled and influential offspring – including our Hurricane Ida.
Now the rest of the story on how she got her name – Jerimiah lives in costal Louisiana and he and his entire family were forced to evacuate their homes with an oncoming severe storm -(Hurricane Ida),just days after this litter was born! Jerimiah and family traveled inland to the Dallas, Texas area and took refuge in a motel with Sadie and her puppies, ( Sadie mostly nursing them in the bathtub)!! Who said raising puppies was easy! We acquired Ida as a puppy and given all she had been through it seemed fitting to name her Hurricane Ida, not even beginning to understand just how fitting her name would become. Ida is a delight to us – covers ground effortlessly, quickly and thoroughly, her work ethic is unmatched! Ida is super intelligent, a great marker, outstanding nose, trainable, compliant and a true team player. She has an intense natural point and is truly bird crazy!! She is genetically clear on the entire Labrador essentials Paw Print Genetics tests and was DNA tested as Non-dilute in her chocolate color coat. Ida is the Real Deal folks –
